Amethi: Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Amethi parliamentary constituency, Smriti Irani responded to Congress general secretary for UP East Priyanka Gandhi Vadra‘s remark that ‘she did not frequent to Amethi enough’. Irani said she was happy that Priyanka is keeping a tab on the numbers of times she made a visit to her constituency. She also questioned if ‘Priyanka would take stock of Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s visits in Amethi as he is the MP from there for the last 15 years’.
“I am happy that Mrs.Vadra is counting the number of times I came to Amethi. Probably she is counting because she is unable to tell the public where was the MP missing for 15 years,” said Irani who was seen visiting the fire-affected fields in Purab Dwara village and meeting the affected locals.
Irani also hit out at Congress president Rahul Gandhi saying that he has been missing from Amethi for the past 15 years. Irani’s remarks came after Priyanka slammed her at a public meeting for not coming to Amethi enough to contest from the seat.
Earlier in the day, Priyanka took a veiled dig at Irani, claiming that the rival politician was distributing money, sarees vand shoes in the constituency in front of the media. She had also alleged that the BJP was suppressing the voices of people when they raised their issues.
Speaking to reporters, Priyanka had said, “The way they contest polls by distributing money, sarees and shoes in front of media is wrong. People of Amethi have never begged in front of anyone. I’ve been coming here since I was 12, people of Amethi and Raebareli have a lot of pride.”
The Congress UP East general secretary stated the basic issues of Amethi were employment, education and health. Hitting out at the BJP, Priyanka had said, “Issues are clear; employment, education and health. Nationalism is to solve the problems of people. Here they don’t listen to people when they raise their issues they suppress them, it’s neither democracy nor nationalism.”
