New Delhi: Hitting out at Opposition leaders’ for accusing PM Narendra Modi of using his caste for electoral gains, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday said that the Prime Minister has only done developmental politics, inspired by nationalism. “How is the Prime Minister’s caste relevant? He has never done caste politics. He has only done developmental politics. He is inspired by nationalism,” Jaitley wrote in a tweet.
He added, “Those who are deceiving the poor in the name of caste will not succeed. They have only amassed wealth in the name of caste politics. The Prime Minister’s assets are not even 0.01% when compared to the First Family of the BSP or the RJD. ”
Jaitley’s remark comes a day after Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati claimed that PM Modi included his community in the Other Backward Caste (OBC) category for political gains.
“PM always belonged to upper caste but during his tenure in Gujarat, he included his community in the OBC category for political gains. Modi tried his best to get votes in the name of backward classes,” Mayawati had stated while addressing a press conference at her residence in Lucknow.
Earlier, Bihar’s former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav had called PM Modi a ‘fake’ OBC. “Yes, Narendra Modi Ji is a fake OBC. He became OBC when he was 55 years old. OBCs don’t accept him as OBC as he hasn’t done anything for them. He hates OBCs and believes in “Varana System,” Yadav had claimed.
Reacting sharply to Opposition leaders’ accusations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, while addressing a rally, aggressively pitched his backward caste identity. “You are distributing pramaan patr (certificates) of caste, a game I have never played. But I want to tell you, my caste is most backward caste,” Modi had said in Kannauj.
