New Delhi: Reacting sharply to Congress president Rahul Gandhi “why are all Modis thieves” barb, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that it has become a fashion for the ‘naamdar’ to speak in derogatory terms.
“These people are crossing limits daily, according to them anyone whose name is Modi is a thief, what kind of politics is this? They have labelled a whole community as thieves only to get some applause, just to insult your ‘chowkidar’,” PM said while addressing a rally in Chhattisgarh’s Korba.

“Is this the language to speak? We have to throw out such people. Abusive language is the norm. The Sahu community here would have been called Modi in Gujarat. Are they all thieves,” Modi asked.
Earlier on Monday, the Congress chief had attacked PM Modi over the issue of corruption asking ‘how come all “thieves” have ‘Modi’ as the common surname. Gandhi was referring to fugitive businessman Nirav Modi and former IPL chairman Lalit Modi. ” Tell me one thing…Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Narendra Modi…How come they all have Modi as common name. How come all the thieves have Modi as the common name?” Gandhi had asked while addressing a rally in support of Congress’s Nanded Lok Sabha seat candidate and the party’s Maharashtra chief Ashok Chavan.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also attacked the Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel claiming that the Congress is hand in glove with Naxals. Referring to the naxal attack which claimed BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi’s life, PM Modi asked.”Naxal influence in the area where Mandavi was killed by them, had been considerably reduced. Why did this happen now?”
The BJP recently suffered a loss after MLA Bhima Mandavi was killed in an IED explosion by Naxals in Dantewada region of the state. The attack took place on the last day of campaigning for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections. “Perpetrators of violence and terror are dancing with joy after Congress manifesto assurances. Will you allow Congress to compromise on your national security. The Congress is encouraging naxals in Chhatisgarh,” Modi said.
