New Delhi: Upping the ante, Bhartiya Janata Party leaders and ministers, including the Prime Minister himself have started to prefix Chowkidar to their name on Twitter, a day after PM Modi launched the BJP’s campaign with #MainBhiChowkidar. BJP national president Amit Shah and Union minister Piyush Goyal were among the first at the time of publishing the story, who prefixed their name with Chowkidar.
With this, the BJP has turned the heat on the Lok Sabha election campaigning. The Lok Sabha Elections 2019 are scheduled to begin from April 11. The voting for the seven-phase polls will conclude on May 19 and counting of votes will be conducted on May 23. The results will be announced on the same day.
The BJP has thrown nothing short of a riddler at the Opposition by twisting its anti-chowkidar harangue and using it in their campaign song.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi has often directed his diatribes at the Prime Minister by calling him a ‘thief’ (Chowkidar Chor Hai) over crony capitalism, alleged irregularities in the Rafale deal and a slew of absconding businessmen tainted with bank frauds.
In rallies, public meet or press conferences, the Congress has long cornered the incumbent government over its failure or ‘complacent’ nature in helping embattled businessmen defaulting on bank payments flee the country.
Recently at the Sankalp rally in Patna, Prime Minister Narendra Modi rebutted the Congress’ repeated Chowkidar jibe and said, “These days a competition is underway to abuse the ‘Chowkidar‘, but you be assured, this ‘Chowkidar‘ of yours is as alert as ever.”
