PM Modi Should Have Taken Action Instead Saying ‘Will Never Forgive’: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sadhvi’s ‘Deshbhakt Godse’ Remark

New Delhi: Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh (East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra asked Prime Minister Modi to clarify his stand on Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse. Speaking to a leading daily on the last day of the 2019 election campaign, Priyanka said that it is not enough for a political leader to state that in your heart, you will not forgive them.

“You have to clear your political position on the killer of Mahatma Gandhi,” said the Congress leader when the daily asked her about PM’s remark that ‘he can’t forgive Pragya Thakur for her remark that Godse was a patriot’. She added that the Prime Minister should have taken action against the BJP candidate from Bhopal.

Earlier on Friday, while speaking at a public event, PM Modi, in first reaction to Pragya Singh Thakur‘s remark on Godse, slammed the BJP saying, “he will never forgive her for insulting Bapu.”

“Gandhiji ya Godse ke baare mein jo bayaan diye gaye hain wo bahut kharaab hain aur samaaj ke liye bahut galat hain. Ye alag baat hai ki unhone maafi maang li, lekin main unhe mann se kabhi maaf nahi kar paunga (Statements given by Gandhiji and Godse are wrong. Though, she has apologised, but I will never be able to forgive her),” PM Modi was quoted as saying on the official Twitter handle of the BJP.

BJP national president Amit Shah had cracked the whip on party leaders Pragya Singh Thakur, Ananthkumar Hegde and Nalin Kateel for their remarks on Godse, claiming that the party’s disciplinary committee will seek an explanation from all of them and will submit a report to the party within 10 days.

Earlier on Wednesday, Thakur landed herself in trouble by terming Godse a ‘deshbhakt’. However, after facing backlash she issued an apology. “It was my personal opinion remark. My intention was not to hurt anyone’s sentiments. If I’ve hurt anyone I do apologise. What Gandhi Ji has done for the country cannot be forgotten. My statement has been twisted by the media,” she said.
