New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Opposition parties and urged farmers not to be misled by ‘their false promises’. Addressing a gathering, after launching ‘historic’ 75,000-crore Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), a cash transfer scheme in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur, PM Modi also warned state governments who are ‘looking to play politics with PM Kisan Yojna’, saying,”If you indulge in this then curse of farmers will destroy your politics.”
Meanwhile, he also reiterated his ‘mahamilavti’ (adulterated) jibe at Opposition unity and said that they were upset when govt informed about this (cash transfer) scheme in Parliament. “‘Mahamilavti’ logon ke moonh utre huye the Parliament mein jab scheme batayi gyi,” PM claimed.
The Prime Minister also raised the issue of farm loan waivers, one of the planks on which the Congress trounced BJP in the three Hindi heartland states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. “For us also loan waivers would have been easy and convenient, we also could have distributed ‘rewri’ for political and election benefits, but we can’t commit such a crime. Loan waiver benefits only a select few,” PM said.
He added,”Our government thinks about even the smallest of problems that farmers face. We have embarked with the aim of making farmers empowered and self sufficient.”
About PM-KISAN scheme
The Union government had announced the PM-KISAN scheme in the 2019-20 Interim Budget. Under this, Rs 6,000 will be paid to 12 crore small and marginal farmers holding cultivable land of up to two hectares per year in three instalments.
