“He went to Somnath temple and sat there as if offering namaz. Temple priest had to scold him that this is a temple, sit cross-legged. He further said that it was the people of Gujarat who exposed Rahul Gandhi when he sat in a position like offering namaz.

Congress in-charge for Uttar Pradesh East Priyanka Gandhi too was in the line of fire, when Adityanath said that the brother-sister duo does not have the time to visit holy sites if elections are not around.

Addressing a rally in Ghatlodiya area under the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, Adityanath made several references to Priyanka’s recently concluded Ganga Yatra from Prayagraj to Varanasi and Rahul’s temple visits during campaigns for Gujarat assembly elections.

“Nearly 24 crore devotees had come to Kumbh Mela. When Congress got to know that there was such large turnout, their new generation dropped in too. They used to say Ganga is not clean, but when they saw people consuming its water, they did the same,” the UP chief minister categorically directed his jibes at Priyanka’s Ganga Yatra.

As part of her election campaign, Priyanka Gandhi visited Prayagraj- where she performed puja, drank from the river and then took a boat ride while interacting with locals.

Strengthening his attack, Adityanath then termed the ‘Nyay’ scheme (minimum income guarantee scheme) as a poll gimmick and asked, “They are now saying that they will fight poverty. They should first answer why poverty increased during their rule. The Congress has ruled for 55 years but poverty kept rising…”

The Congress recently rolled out a poll promise of a minimum income guarantee to those who per less than Rs 12,000 per month.
