New Delhi: Congress general secretary of Uttar Pradesh East, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that she will contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections if the party leadership asks her. She, however, said that no decision has been made yet and her own wish is to work for the party’s organisation.

“If my party asks me to contest the polls, I will definitely do so. But my personal wish is to work for the party’s organisation as a lot of work needs to be done,” the Congress leader said at a media interaction in Lucknow

She added,”I have told party workers that it is very important you campaign properly this election. You should go to each and every house, and tell people that this election is to save the nation. Not Rahul Gandhi, but the nation should win this election.”

Earlier it was speculated that Priyanka Gandhi may be pitted against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi  but the grand old party dismissed the reports as baseless.

Priyanka Gandhi, who was given charge of the party’s campaign in east UP in January, also asked party workers in state to start preparations for Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections scheduled to take place in 2022. Encouraging party workers in her brother and Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s bastion, Priyanka said,”Tayyari kar rahe ho aap chunaav ki? Iss wale ki nahi, 2022 ke liye? Kar rahe ho? Kaam karna padhega. (Are you preparing for elections? Not for this (Lok Sabha Elections), for 2022? Are you doing? You have to work).”

The Congress general secretary in-charge of the state’s eastern districts kicked off second leg of her campaign on Wednesday with the visit to Amethi. She is scheduled to reach her mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s bastion Rae Bareli today. She will visit Ayodhya on Friday.
