New Delhi:  Putting an end to speculations of a possible alliance with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress chief Rahul Gandhi made it clear that his party would go solo in the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2019. Rahul on Monday asked booth level workers in the national capital to ensure victory in all seven seats in Delhi in the general elections.

“Congress has to win all the 7 seats in Delhi. The booth level workers have to ensure it. Tell people that the Congress is the only party that can change Delhi and entire India” the Congress president told booth level workers, a day after the Election Commission announced dates for general elections.

Gandhi also tweeted a short video after his interaction with booth level workers and said, “Their energy and enthusiasm convinces me that the Congress party in Delhi will do extremely well in the general elections.”

Rahul’s statement comes a week after former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that there will be no AAP-Congress alliance in Delhi for the Lok Sabha elections. “An unanimous decision was taken at a party meet to not enter into a pre-poll alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party,”  Congress in-charge for Delhi, Sheila Dikshit had confirmed on March 5.

Following her statement,  Arvind Kejriwal had accused the grand old party of helping BJP. “At a time when the whole country wants to defeat Modi- Shah duo, Congress is helping BJP by splitting anti-BJP vote,” Delhi CM and AAP convener Kejriwal had tweeted.

Furthermore he had alleged,”Rumours are that Congress has some secret understanding withe BJP. Delhi is ready to fight against Cong-BJP alliance. People will defeat this unholy alliance.”

The Lok Sabha Elections 2019 will begin on April 11 and will be held in seven phases, the Election Commission announced on Sunday. The model code of conduct came into immediate effect from March 10 itself and the counting of votes will take place on May 23, 2019.
