Amethi: BJP leader Smriti Irani hit back at Rahul Gandhi, her rival in Amethi, for not being there even on voting day as it went to polls in the fifth phase. (Catch Complete Coverage of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 Here)

Speaking to ANI, Irani said, “Rahul Gandhi ne aaj voting ke din ek baar phir Amethi ki janta ko dhokha diya hai. Mujhe yeh nahi pata tha ki woh itne ghamandi ho jaayenge Amethi ki janta ko lekar ki voting ke din bhi nahi aayenge. Itna bada apmaan karne ki kya zaroorat thi (On voting day itself Rahul Gandhi cheated the electorate of Amethi. I didn’t know he has become so smug about the public here that he wouldn’t turn up today either. What was the need to humiliate the public thus).”

While Rahul was in Haryana, campaigning, Irani had also, earlier in the day, accused him of booth capturing in Amethi. “Earlier the Congress President was involved in land grabbing now he is stealing votes too,” she said while speaking to reporters.

She added, “They said that ‘chowkidar chor hai’, but they are the ones who are stealing votes. Rahul Gandhi will have to answer for such acts and the administration must look into the matter.”

She had also attacked Rahul, hours after he penned a letter to the people of Amethi titled ‘Mera Amethi Parivar’- when she reasoned that this act showed how little importance he gave to Amethi.

News agency ANI quoted Irani as saying, “His writing letter shows that he has not given importance to Amethi and thus didn’t take the pain to visit ‘Nyay-panchayat’ located in the constituency himself.”
