Holding a rally here on Monday, Congress President Rahul Gandhi likened PM Modi with a boxer who had entered the ring with people’s mandate but instead of defeating corruption, unemployment and farmers’ woes, had beaten his own people.

He said, “In 2014, a boxer named Narendra Modi, with a 56” chest, entered the ring with people’s mandate. The country expected him to defeat rivals like unemployment, farmers’ woes and corruption. He had the support of his coach, Advani ji, and his team of (Nitin) Gadkari ji and (Arun) Jaitley.

“But this boxer, instead of defeating the problems plaguing the country turned around and punched his own guru. Advani ji was stunned. Then he ran after his own team of Gadkari ji, Jaitley ji et al. The public was shocked at what the boxer was doing.”

“Even as the crowd wondered what the boxer was doing, he jumped into the crowd and caught hold of small shopkeepers. He punched them twice, first with demonetisation and then with Gabbar Singh Tax (GST)…then he accosted farmers. Farmers pleaded to him to go fight their problems instead. They asked him to give them loan waiver and better price for their produce. But this boxer wasn’t listening. The public was stunned that the boxer didn’t know what he was supposed to fight in the first place.”

Only a couple of days ago, Rahul had hit back at PM Modi for claiming that surgical strikes during UPA regime were probably done in ‘video games’.

He said, “The Army, Air Force or Navy are not personal properties of Narendra Modi ji like he thinks. When he says that surgical strikes during UPA were done in video games then he is not insulting Congress but the Army. We do not politicise the Army like him (PM).”

The PM had said, “Jab kagaz par hi karni ho, jab video game mein hi strike karni ho to 6 ho ya 3 ho, 20 hon ya 25 hon, ye jhoote logon ko kya fark padta hai. (When you conduct surgical strikes on paper, it can be three, six, 20 or even 25… it will not matter since it is all lies).”
