Jaipur: Yoga guru-turned-entrepreneur Baba Ramdev is again rooting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a volte-face from his earlier stand where he said it would be difficult to predict who the next prime minister would be,  Ramdev has sought a bigger mandate for PM Modi in these Lok Sabha elections.

Here to support Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore as the latter filed his nomination for Jaipur Rural Lok Sabha seat, Ramdev exhorted people to vote for the BJP.

He said, “To make India a world economic and political superpower in the next 20-25 years, we have to make Modi stronger. In his hands, the country is safe; the future of our jawans is safe, honour and respect of women are safe and farms of farmers are safe.”

While calling PM Modi “the pride of Bharat Mata”, Ramdev targeted the Congress over its basic minimum income scheme, NYAY. “‘Nyay’ will happen at every booth and will be delivered by the public. Voters will do justice now,” he said.

Ramdev had appeared to have distanced himself from the saffron party a few months ago. At an event, when asked if he would campaign for BJP, Ramdev had shot back, “Why would I?…I have withdrawn myself politically. I am with all parties and I am with no party.” he had said.

In 2014, Ramdev had openly supported BJP’s national election campaign. A year later, Haryana made him its brand ambassador, allotting him a beaconed car, security and an escort vehicle whenever he visited.

Baba Ramdev has riled many with his controversial statements. Last year, he claimed that Lord Ram was the ancestor of not only Hindus but Muslims too. He said, “Ram Mandir will be constructed in Ayodhya. It will not be constructed in Mecca-Medina or Vatican City. This is undisputed truth that Ram’s birthplace is Ayodhya and Ram is not only Hindu but also the ancestor of Muslims.”
