New Delhi: Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday made a veiled attacked on Shatrughan Sinha saying the voters of Patna Sahib will not remain silent. Prasad’s statement came after the Sinha, who has been a staunch critic of PM Modi, was denied a ticket by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Bihar’s Patna Sahib for the Lok Sabha elections 2019.
The Patna Sahib seat held by Sinha since 2009 was given to Ravi Shankar Prasad after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) released its second list of candidates for the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar on March 23.
While speaking to media, Prasad said, “The whole of India wants Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remain in power for the second time. One more thing I want to say is that voters of Patna Sahib constituency will not remain silent.”
However, things turned a bit embarrassing for the Union Minister today after a group of Sinha’s supporters protested against him at the Patna airport. A video has been doing rounds on the social media which shows Sinha’s supporters shouting slogans of ‘Ravi Shankar Prasad, go back’ and ‘Sinha Zindabad’.
The BJP workers were disappointed with the party’s decision to field Prasad from Patna Sahib seat, which was held by actor-politician Sinha since 2009.
Meanwhile, Sinha yet again showered praise on the Opposition today after the grand old party announced a minimum income guarantee scheme called ‘NYAY’ under which Rs. 72,000 will be given to 20 per cent of India’s poorest families every year.
He also attacked the BJP leaders who criticised the scheme. “Would like to know from our learned friends/leadership – that when you announced various ‘jumlaas’….15 Lacs to every individual, farmers’ loan waivers & subsidies, more than 2 crore jobs for the youth every year, etc. etc..Was all this fair?”
Bihar will go for polling during all seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections. In Bihar, different constituencies will see polling on April 11, 18, 23 and 29 besides May 6, 12 and 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
