New Delhi: Snubbed by the Bharatiya Janata Party, Shatrughan Sinha, the in-house staunch critic of PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, showered praise on Congress’ promise of a minimum income guarantee scheme ‘NYAY’ under which Rs. 72,000 will be given to 20 per cent of India’s poorest families every year.

Calling the scheme a masterstroke, the actor-turned-politician said, “It’s a masterstroke by the ‘master of situation’, Rahul Gandhi – declaring Minimum Income Guarantee scheme. It has rattled our people so much that some of our prominent people had to rush for a press conference, calling the whole declaration/ announcement “chhal kapat (sic),” he tweeted.

He also attacked the BJP leaders who are criticising the scheme. “Would like to know from our learned friends / leadership – that when you announced various ‘jumlaas’….15 Lacs to every individual, farmers’ loan waivers & subsidies, more than 2 crore jobs for the youth every year, etc. etc..Was all this fair?”

Sinha added,”Aap kare toh ‘raasleela’, baki kare toh ‘character dheela’! What is right for Peter, should be right for Paul, Sir. The people have welcomed this move and are very excited. Farmers loans have been waived as promised by them recently – in 3 different states. This is how things are paid in the same coin, that’s why it is called ‘master of situation’ Rahul Gandhi.”

Earlier on Monday, Congress president Rahul Gandhi promised to give Rs 72,000 every year to 20 per cent of the poorest families if his party voted to power in the forthcoming polls. “We will do justice by the poor people of the country through the Minimum Income Guarantee scheme. Congress party guarantees that 20% of the families below poverty line will get Rs 72000 annually,” Rahul Gandhi said in a press conference after the party’s working committee meeting.

He added,”All calculations have been done. Minimum Income Line will be Rs 12000. If your income is below the mark then we will help you get there. This will be a fiscally prudent scheme. If Narendra Modi can give money to the rich, Congress party will give the money to the poor. ”

Rahul further claimed that five crore families and 25 crore people will directly benefit from the scheme. “There is no such scheme anywhere else in the world. It is an extremely powerful, extremely dynamic, extremely well-thought idea,” he asserted.
