New Delhi: Defending his father and senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge over his controversial ‘will Narendra Modi hang himself’ remark, Priyank Kharge, sparked fresh row, stating he would ‘lay a road for PM to hang himself on’. “He had said he would hang himself in the middle of the road if problems caused by demonetisation were not solved in fifty days. We are ready to lay the road. Will he come,”Priyank Kharge, a minister in present Karnataka government said.
On being asked if his father would apologise for his controversial statement, Priyank said,”Before my father apologises, let PM Modi and BJP leaders apologise. They called Sonia Gandhi a jersey cow, they said Rahul Gandhi is a hybrid. They’ve made several statements. First let them apologise.”

Upping the ante against the ruling party, Priyanka further claimed that BJP is making tall promises of winning election but nothing much would come of these. “BJP said they’ll make a Congress-mukt Bharat. Later they said the party will come to power on its own. Now they say NDA will come to power,” he added.
Earlier on Sunday, Mallikarjun Kharge while addressing a rally in Karnataka’s Kalburgi had attacked PM Modi saying,”Wherever he (Modi) goes, he keeps saying that Congress will not win 40 seats. Do you believe that? If Congress gets more than 40 seats, will Modi hang himself at Delhi’s Vijay Chowk.”
Kharge’s remark came in the backdrop of PM Modi’s claim that Congress will get fewer than 50 seats in the Lok Sabha elections 2019. In the last General Elections in 2014, the Congress had been reduced to 44 seats, its lowest-ever figure.
