In a shocking incident, a man named Lokesh was arrested in the temple town of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly raping a woman in broad daylight on a footpath at Koyla Phatak, an intersection in the city. The incident took place on a Wednesday, with a video capturing the assault quickly circulating on social media platforms, causing widespread outrage. According to reports, Lokesh is said to have lured the woman, who works as a scrap collector, by promising marriage and offering her alcohol before sexually assaulting her. The assault took place in the Agar Naka area, where no bystanders intervened to help the victim. Shockingly, instead of coming to her aid, someone callously filmed the assault and shared it online.
Police Response and Arrest
The incident came to light when a video of the rape surfaced online, prompting action from the authorities. City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Om Prakash Mishra revealed that the woman, when the effect of alcohol wore off, reported the crime to the police. Subsequently, Lokesh was arrested by a police team within two hours of the FIR being filed.
Following his arrest, Lokesh confessed to the act during police interrogation. The victim underwent a medical examination, and Lokesh was presented before the court. In compliance with the court’s directive, Lokesh has been remanded to Bherugarh jail. Additionally, the woman provided her statement in the court. The video evidence of the assault was also submitted to the authorities for further investigation.
