After Bengaluru, Water Crisis Hits Mumbai, Not A Single Drop of Water To Drink For 3,000 Families in Gorai Village

Mumbai Water Crisis: After Bengaluru, now Mumbai is facing acute water crisis as Gorai village under the BMC jurisdictions did not get water supply for the past one week. And because of this, over 3,000 families residing in the village are facing worst crisis ever. However, to address the water woes, these villagers are buying water from tankers at exorbitant prices, while some other families are fetching impure water from village wells.

These villagers told HT that the water crisis in the area is not new and they said how over 5,000 families residing in the village did not receive water supply from the BMC in the past week.

Villagers Spend Rs 7,000 on Water Tanker Per Month

Some of the villagers narrated their ordeal saying they spent over Rs 7,000 a month on tanker water for essential needs and others had to carry water in vessels because the roads to their houses were too narrow for the tankers to come in.

Everat Manaji, a resident of the village told HT that she and her neighbours stopped receiving BMC water seven days ago and the water in the well in her neighbourhood was not enough to meet their daily needs.

Water Crisis Hits Nashik

Apart from the Gorai village in Mumbai, water crisis has hit Nashik in the past few days as the district battles with drought and the newly developed settlements within Nashik city limits are grappling with acute water scarcity. The residents in several areas are facing a crisis of drinking water supply, leading the municipality to provide water through tankers.

Nearly eight tankers are making fifty rounds per day and despite that the current water supply situation is strained, and the demand is expected to surge in the coming months.

It should be noted that Nashik’s water demands are met by Gangapur Dam. However, challenges such as water diversion for irrigation and population growth have exhausted the water scarcity issue, especially in settlements like Makhalabad, Adgaon, Gangapur village, Chandshi, Nandur Naka, and Pathardi village.

Water Scarcity in Pune

Just like Nashik, Pune is also facing water crisis as many district are facing a severe water scarcity with the number of hamlets relying on tankers for water supply reaching 795.

As per the updates from the Zilla Parishad on Tuesday, Purandar taluka has the highest utilisation of water tankers, with 64 deployed across 43 villages and 374 hamlets.
