A 27-year-old mentally unwell woman was allegedly raped by a 17-year-old minor boy and five others in Chandrapur district in Maharashtra. The accused also filmed a video of the sexual assault and shared it on social media.

Chandrapur Rape: In yet another disturbing case of depraved sexual violence, a 27-year-old mentally unwell woman was allegedly raped by a 17-year-old minor boy and five others in Chandrapur district in Maharashtra. The accused also filmed a video of the sexual assault and shared the clip on social media platforms.

The incident, which comes amidst the ongoing outrage and protests over the sexual abuse of two kindergarten girls in Badlapur town of the state’s Thane district, reportedly took place on the night of August 12 in Nagbhid tehsil, around 100 kilometres away from Chandrapur district headquarters, according to the police.

A senior police official said five persons have been arrested, while a minor has been detained in connection with the case.

“One person, identified as Harinarayan Manre, was arrested for raping the woman. Four others were held for shooting a video. We have also detained a 17-year-old boy,” the official said.

He said the accused filmed the sexual assault and posted the video on social media, following which the police took cognizance and nabbed the perpetrators.

“We were alerted about the incident after we found out about the video from social media. We identified the woman, who is mentally unwell, and then proceeded with arresting the accused,” he said.

The accused have been charged under provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act, another official said, adding that further investigation in the case is underway.
