Will Maharashtra Impose COVID Restrictions in View of Rising Cases? CM Uddhav Calls Task Force Meet Today

Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 1,081 fresh Covid cases, the highest daily rise after February 24.

India on Friday added 16,561 new coronavirus cases taking the total tally of Covid cases to 4,42,23,557.

Maharashtra Coronavirus Latest News Today: Alarmed by the rising cases of coronavirus in the state, the Maharashtra government on Thursday sounded high alert across the state and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has called a meeting of the Covid task force around 6 PM today. During the meeting, the chief minister will review the situation in the state and will take a decision accordingly.

Will Maharashtra impose COVID restrictions in the wake of the rising cases of coronavirus? Well, the state government has not made any official announcement in this regard so far. However, a clear picture will be out once the meeting of the CM with the task force members concludes.

Last week, Mumbai city guardian minister Aslam Shaikh had said the state will impose another lockdown if COVID cases continue to rise and exceed thousand in the state.

Record corona cases

The development comes as the state on Wednesday recorded 1,081 fresh Covid cases, the highest daily rise after February 24. However, the state health department said there were no fatalities. Maharashtra’s active tally of cases now stands at 4,032.

Nandurbar, Dhule, Latur, Parbhani, Akola, Buldhana and Gondia have zero active cases. A total of 524 patients recovered from COVID-19 infection in the last 24 hours, taking the number of recoveries in Maharashtra to 77,36,275.

In the meantime, Mumbai has also recorded 739 fresh infections. Maharashtra had reported 1,124 cases on February 24. The active tally of cases in the state now stands at 4,032.

Kerala, Karnataka on high alert

Apart from Maharashtra, another state that is seeing a spike in Covid cases is Kerala. The state has recorded 1,370 new Covid cases.

Looking at Kerala and Maharashtra, the Karnataka has sounded high alert. As per reports, sources in Karnataka health department said since there was heavy movement of people from both the states to Karnataka, especially capital Bengaluru, hence COVID measures need to be initiated.
