Mumbai Traffic Advisory: The ten-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival began on Saturday, and devotees are eager to welcome their Bappa. It is one of the most significant festivals in Maharashtra, celebrated with full zeal and religious fervor. The Mumbai Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory for the convenience of commuters, ensuring smooth flow during the major festival dates: September 8, 11, 12, 13, and 17. Notably, traffic restrictions will be imposed from 12:00 PM until 6:00 AM the following day.
These traffic restrictions have been implemented to handle the increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic during the ten-day grand festival. To avoid delays, the traffic police has urged commuters to prepare ahead of time and stay up to date on local news or traffic applications.
Mumbai Traffic Advisory: Check Major Traffic Diversions, Road Closures
North to South Mumbai Traffic:
From the 6th till the 18th of September, the Dharmaveer Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road is accessible all day for vehicles.
Traffic via Free Way and South Mumbai:
Southbound traffic: From Eastern Freeway to Atal Setu → CSMT → Coastal Road.
Northbound traffic: From Coastal Road to Princess Street → CSMT → Eastern Freeway.
Key Areas with Road Closures and Alternate Routes:
Colaba Division:
Nathalal Parekh Marg: The traffic police has restricted the traffic between Bhai Bhandarkar Chowk and Sayyed Mohammed Jamadar Chowk.
Alternate route: Commuters can take Via Captain Prakash Pethe Marg.
Rambhau Salgaonkar Marg: vehicular movement is restricted from Volga Chowk to Kamal Morarka Chowk.
– Alternate route: SBS Road and Nathalal Parekh Marg.
Marine Drive Division:
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road: The traffic police has diverted the Northside traffic to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road.
Kalbadevi Division:
The traffic police closed J.S.S. Road from Sangeetkar Abdul Kareem Khan Chowk to Portuguese Church.
Alternate route: Maharshi Karve Road or N.S. Road.
Pydhonie Division:
P.D’Mello Road: Traffic restricted from Kaklij Chowk to Wadibunder Junction.
Alternate routes: SVP Road, Dr. B. A. Road, and JJ Road.
Tardeo Division:
Pandita Ramabai Marg: traffic restricted from Wilson Junction to Cecil Junction.
Alternate route: Sitaram Patkar Marg, Bandstand, and RTI Junction.

During the immersion days, various streets including Nathalal Parekh Marg, Captain Prakash Pethe Marg, JSS Road, and SVP Road have been designated as no-parking zones. This ban is in effect from 11 in the morning till 6 the next morning.

Drivers, be ready to face heavy traffic in areas such as Cuffe Parade, Girgaon, Thakurdwar, JJ Junction, Tardeo Circle, and Nana Chowk. My advice to you would be to sidestep these parts of the city, unless it’s absolutely necessary.

During the celebrations of the Ganesh festival in Mumbai, the city’s civic body has urged folks, especially those involved in idol immersions, to keep a wary eye on stingray and jellyfish encounters. A word from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed that ‘trial netting’ efforts by the Fisheries Department, an extension of the Maharashtra government, have identified a marked presence of these harm-inflicting fish. They pose potential risks to Ganesh devotees who might interact with them during the ritualistic immersion process.
