Mumbai rains: Incessant rains are lashing Mumbai, disrupting daily life, halting suburban train services, and grounding flights. IMD has issued high tide alert in Mumbai and Red Alert for these districts.

Mumbai Rains: IMD Issues High Tide Warning; Red Alert For These Districts

Mumbai: Amid the ongoing incessant showers that have created havoc in Mumbai, leaving it waterlogged, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high tide alert for the city. The heavy rains on Monday brought the maximum city to a standstill, and residents can expect no immediate relief as the weather department has issued a ‘Red alert’ for the city. The weather office also issued a ‘Red alert’ for Ratnagiri, Raigad, Satara, Pune, and Sindhudurg, and an ‘Orange alert’ for Thane and Palghar.

IMD forecasts heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Mumbai until July 12. The weather agency also predicts heavy to moderate rainfall across various districts including Palghar, Thane, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nasik, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Osmanabad, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal until July 12.

Mumbai Rains: Weather Forecast

The weather department has predicted rainfall at isolated locations in the city until July 12. Heavy to moderate rainfall is also likely across various districts including Nanded, Beed, Nagpur, Washim, Jalna, Solapur, Osmanabad, Ahmednagar, Parbhani, Chandrapur, Latur, Yavatmal, Akola, Buldhana, Nasik, Thane, Hingoli, Amravati, Sangli, Jalgaon, Bhandara, Kolhapur, Dhule, Aurangabad, Palghar, Gadchiroli, Wardha, Nandurbar, Gondia, and Pune until July 12.

Mumbai Rains: Waterlogging In Several Areas

Rainwater submerged several major roads resulting to severe waterlogging in most parts of the city. heavy traffic jams can also be seen due to the severe waterlogging.

Mumbai Rains: BEST Bus, Train Services Affected

Due to the downpour in Mumbai, the locals saw a disruption of the regular BEST bus services due to route changes from the waterlogged areas such as Parel, Gandhi Market, Sangam Nagar, and the Malad subway. Recording a significant 47.93 mm of rain in just ten hours, Mumbai’s landscape was drenched in showers, with its eastern and western regions getting soaked in 18.82 mm and 31.74 mm of rainfall respectively. In a 24-hour span ending at 8 AM, the island city palpably faced the showers, registering 115.63 mm of rain, whilst the Eastern and Western parts of Mumbai were not far behind with 168.68 mm and 165.93 mm of rains respectively. Adding to the situation, forty instances of trees collapsing and twelve short circuits were reported. Unfortunately, the series of events led to the sad demise of a 72-year-old lady in Santacruz East. Despite the intense rainfall causing ten cases of residential or wall breakdowns, no other deaths were reported thankfully.

Mumbai Rains: NDRF Deployed

The NDRF has deployed teams to numerous affected areas in Maharashtra including Kurla, Ghatkopar, Thane, Vasai, Mahad, Chiplun, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, and Sindhudurg to carry out disaster relief operations.
