Mumbai rains: Waterlogging in Bandra, Vile Parle, Sion, Andheri; Rainwater enters Andheri and Milan subways, local train services on Harbour, Central lines hit

Mumbai woke up to a wet, grey Saturday as heavy to very heavy rain poured over several parts of the city from the early hours. Heavy overnight showers have resulted in waterlogging across the city.

Heavy rain caused severe waterlogging in many parts of Mumbai on Saturday morning, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a red alert for the city. Water flooded streets, residential areas, and even railway tracks at Dadar and Bandra stations after continuous rain from Friday night. Between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., intense showers hit both western and eastern suburbs. In the west, Marol Fire Station recorded the highest rainfall at 207 mm, followed by Nariyalwadi School in Santacruz with 202 mm. In the east, Vikhroli and Ghatkopar saw heavy downpours, with Tagore Nagar Municipal School logging 196 mm and the nearby Building Proposal Office recording 195 mm.

The heavy overnight rainfall resulted in waterlogging across several low-lying stretches, particularly in suburbs prone to flooding. Waterlogging was reported in Sion-King Circle, Bandra, Vile Parle, Andheri, Vashi and Vasai-Virar.  Rainwater entered several subways, including Andheri and Milan subways, making them unusable. Around the SCLR Bridge, people were seen pushing their vehicles through deep water.

Videos from Navi Mumbai and nearby areas showed people in Vashi walking through knee-deep water with umbrellas. Popular spots like Kings Circle and Gandhi Market were also submerged.

Mumbai local trains running late

Between Sion and Kurla railway stations, tracks were seen completely under water. On the Central Railway line, trains were delayed by about 15 minutes, while Harbour Line services were running 15–20 minutes late. Western Railway trains were also behind schedule.

Central Railway officials said both Up and Down lines were affected by flooding between Kurla and Dadar, forcing trains to slow down and causing long waits for passengers. On the Harbour Line, waterlogging at Chunabhatti station led to further delays.

Railway authorities confirmed suburban services were running late and advised travellers to check updates before starting their journey.

Two dead in landslide in Vikhroli West

Two people died and two others were injured after a landslide hit a hut in Mumbai’s Vikhroli West early Saturday.

The incident happened around 2:39 a.m. in Jankalyan Society, Varsha Nagar, when soil and rocks from a hillside collapsed onto the hut, Mumbai Fire Brigade officials said.

The structure, located on collector-owned land in a landslide-prone area, was buried under the debris.

Mumbai Police issues advisory

Mumbai Police has urged residents to stay alert as the city continues to receive heavy rain. In a public advisory posted on its official X account, the police said, “Mumbai is experiencing heavy rainfall with an Orange Alert in effect. Waterlogging and reduced visibility have been reported in several areas. Mumbaikars are advised to avoid non-essential travel and exercise caution while venturing out.”

The advisory added that police personnel have been instructed to remain on high alert to respond quickly to distress calls and provide help wherever needed. Emergency helpline numbers 100, 112, and 103 have been activated for immediate assistance.
