A little over a month after the Pune Porsche Crash, the minor involved in the accident has walked free from the observation home. The order by Bombay High Court has been facing a lot of backlash and the netizens have even called Judiciary 'the mistress of the rich'.
Pune Porsche Crash Latest Update: On the night of May 19, a speeding Porsche in Pune hit a bike and killed two engineers – Ashwini Kostha and Aneesh Awadhiya on the spot. The car was being driven by a teenager who was drunk at the time of the accident; son of a prominent builder in the city, the accused was handed over to the cops at the time of the accident and was released fifteen hours later on bail conditions that attracted a lot of public outrage. The order was then modified and the Juvenile Justice Board sent the teenager to an observation home. In a latest development, the Bombay High Court ordered the release of the accused teen, again attracting attention and public outcry. There have been multiple negative reactions to the order of the High Court and netizens have gone on to call judiciary ‘the mistress of the rich’.

As mentioned earlier, the Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed to immediate release of the 17-year-old boy from the observation home allegedly involved in the Pune car accident. The court deemed the orders remanding him to an observation home as illegal and emphasized that the law regarding juveniles must be fully implemented and stated that justice must be prioritized above all else. The order has been negatively received by the public who are condemning the same with massive outrage on social media.

While one user has commented “Judiciary is the mistress of the rich”, another has said, “If he and his family had not been bailed, I seriously would have lost faith in money.” Hinting at how corruption is prevalent in India, one social media user said, “Everything is sold in India, you just have to have enough money for it”; another comment with over 200 likes reads, “Yes why not… he is in trauma for killing two innocents! He must be released so that others can get a lesson that money can buy everything.”
Bombay High Court Orders Release Of Accused Teen
Ordering the immediate release of the accused teen, the High Court criticized the Juvenile Justice Board’s remand orders as “illegal” and passed without jurisdiction. The court also reprimanded the police for their handling of the situation, noting that law enforcement agencies had succumbed to public pressure. The court emphasized that regardless of the seriousness of the crime, the accused is still a child under the Juvenile Justice Act and must be treated as such. The Act aims at rehabilitation and social integration of juvenile offenders, and confinement in an observation home is only permissible when bail has not been granted.
