Indian Overseas Congress Leader Defends Rahul Gandhi's Germany Visit Amid BJP Criticism

As the scandals against Rahul Gandhi continue to increase because of his continued visit to Germany during the Parliament session, Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Europe General Secretary Mohamed Irshath came out in defence of the visit and pointed to its national interest.

Irshath commented that the attack on Rahul Gandhi is frivolous as well as political and especially considering the fact that he has already addressed the current Parliament session and expressed significant issues regarding the work of the Election Commission. He indicated that BJP had not responded to these questions.

He emphasised that participation of Rahul Gandhi in the Indian communities of the world is a crucial link in connecting Parliament and the diaspora in strengthening national obligations.

“Constructive engagement with the Indian diaspora is not optional – it is essential. The Indian diaspora is an inseparable extension of India’s democratic fabric,” Irshath stated.

He explained that countries worldwide engage with their overseas citizens to strengthen cultural diplomacy, global partnerships, economic opportunities, and democratic dialogue. He said Rahul Gandhi’s outreach in Germany aligns with these principles of international engagement.

Irshath stressed that the purpose of the visit is clear and rooted in dialogue, democracy, and strengthening India’s global voice. He added that such engagements help India, not harm it.

He also extended a warm welcome to the distinguished leaders attending the event:

“I wholeheartedly welcome Shri Sam Pitroda, Dr Arathi Krishna, and all IOC office bearers who are joining us for this important interaction with the Indian community in Germany. Their presence reinforces the unity and seriousness of our mission.”

In closing, Irshath reiterated that political noise cannot overshadow the importance of genuine democratic conversations:

“India’s democracy is strengthened when its leaders listen, engage, and connect both at home and abroad.”
