Though Pune is blessed with a favourable climate all year round, the fast-paced city can sometimes feel quite over-bearing. The upside is that there are some gorgeous quick getaways from the city that help in taking that much needed break. Here are the top picturesque ones you must consider for your next trip.

Pawna Lake

About 50km from Pune, what makes Pawna Lake such a hit among travellers is its strategic location. Along with camping and paragliding, there’s a ton of sightseeing you can do as well. Some major attractions around Pawna Lake are Lohagad Fort, Tikona Fort, Tung Fort, and Visapur Fort. A trek up to these forts is a must; especially if you like some extra dose of adrenaline.

Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary

Wildlife lover or not, Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary makes for an idyllic weekend getaway for the intrepid traveller. With Shivsagar Lake on one side and the Western Ghats on the other, the sanctuary is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. Spread over 420 square kilometres of forest area, the most commonly spotted animals here are panther, sloth bear, gaur, tiger, giant squirrel, brown-capped woodpecker, cobra, and python. From wildlife expeditions, safaris to photography and picnics, there’s nothing that you can’t do here. Visit the nearby Thoseghar Lake, if there’s time on hand.

Barely 90km from Pune, Wai is located in the Satara district of Maharashtra. A hub of sports activities, you can indulge in raft building, trekking, kayaking, and stargazing here. Also known as ‘Virat Nagari’, there are some impressive temple buildings that you can explore in Wai.

Lavasa is a quaint hill station, located in the beautiful Mose Valley of the Western Ghats, designed to look like a European town. Most of Lavasa is facing the lakefront, which offers great scope for tandem cycling and mud-biking. A stay in one of the properties here can be quite relaxing; with nothing but the rolling hills and sprawling farms for company.
