It’s time to travel to Uttarakhand – with Asia’s biggest lake festival in Tehri around the corner. Tehri Lake Festival is an annual event, and this year it’ll happen from February 26 – 28. Tehri Lake is enough in itself to mesmerise a traveller; it’s azure blue water and the peace and silence engulfing the area is just beautiful in itself – yet once the adventure begins then that too is a lot of fun.

The festival revolves around having fun near the water body of Tehri – their are stunning fireworks, aerial sports and water adventure sports such as boating, banana rides, river rafting, paragliding, kayaking, paragliding, water surfing, canoeing and much more.

Surprisingly(Shockingly), this “lake” is only 140 km long!😅 Followed by the beautiful lakeside mountains and so beautiful roads, it keeps making you say “Waah!” every time! The still silent water is just icing on the cake! . . Amazing picture by @k_win.carter . It’s one-of-a-kind event where travellers get to showcase their skills and interact with fellow travellers who have similar passions.  Also, there are performances by Bollywood artists that are thoroughly entertaining as well as cultural events that show the Tehri region in a different light.

Tehri Dam in the region is one of the largest hydroelectric projects in the world. The ruins of old Tehri lie underwater while the New Tehri town is set at an altitude of 1750m, overlooking the gigantic lake and Tehri Dam. The dam harnesses water of two important Himalayan rivers- Bhagirathi and Bhilangana. Other attractions in Tehri are Koti Colony and Pratap Nagar.

The nearest airport is located at a distance of around 87km from Tehri. It’s the Jolly Grant Airport also known as Dehradun Airport. Cabs are easily available from Dehradun to New Tehri.
