Indian Railways initiative IRCTC has just come up with a special package for travellers this summer; one that takes them from Bagdogra to the Eastern Himalayas. Keeping to the idea that people mostly like to travel to the hills during summers, this tour package has been planned accordingly.

Three package dates have been announced till now: May 23, May 28 and June 8. It’s an all inclusive package where you don’t have to worry about anything; everything from both side economy travelling flight tickets (Delhi to Bagdogra and back), daily dinner and breakfast, deluxe rooms in Darjeeling, Gangtok and Kalimpong, AC SUV for transfer and sightseeing as well as permits and taxes will be included.

It’s a 6-day tour, where the itinerary looks roughly like this:

Day 1: Delhi-Bagdogra-Kalimpong

Day 2: Kalimpong – Gangtok

Day 3: Tsomgo Lake and Baba Harbhajan Singh Memorial

Day 4: Gangtok local sightseeing (Rumtek Monastery, Do-Drul Chorten, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology and Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom)

Day 5: Darjeeling local sightseeing

Day 6: Darjeeling-Bagdogra-Delhi

The approximate cost for twin and triple sharing packages are INR 32,480 and INR 30,540, respectively. That’s quite a good deal given that a lot of major attractions are being covered on the tour along with airfare, two meals daily and accommodation. Plus, why miss a chance to explore northeastern India, also known as the land of blue mountains, green valleys and red rivers.

The northeast beckons those who need to relax and unwind, and those who yearn for adventure and excitement. There is a mystery and romance in exploring the wild side of nature – the gushing streams, cascading waterfalls and picturesque mountain ranges – in the golden trio of Kalimpong, Darjeeling and Gangtok.

So, give the beaches and the hills in North India a miss and head for a rather off-beat travel experience to the Northeast with IRCTC’s complete package.
