Touted as the ‘Jewel of the East’, Vizag is the largest city in Andhra Pradesh and perhaps, one of the few cities in the country to be home to both the beaches and the mountains. But one place in Visakhapatnam which is absolutely unmissable is the Kailasagiri Park situated on a hill-top.

Spread over a sprawling 100 acres, Kailasagiri offers panoramic views of the surrounds – a delight for nature lovers. A well-maintained park, Kailasagiri is always bustling with people enjoying the tranquil atmosphere and the scenic beauty around. The major attraction of Kailasagiri is the magnanimous, 40 feet tall statue of Shiva and Parvathi made of white marble. Interestingly, this statue is where Kailasagiri derives its name from. This hilltop can be reached by a rope-way as well as by road. But it’s highly recommended that you take the rope-way for a breathtaking view of the city. If you wish to take the road, a journey through the curved roads around the hill is also quite enjoyable.

Then there are a number of other attractions in and around Kailasagiri that are worth a visit such as: the Floral clock, Titanic Viewpoint, Jungle Trails, Shanthi Ashram, and Shanku Chakra Nama. Another remarkable attraction here, popular especially among the kids is the toy train. This train gives a circular tour of the park and is thoroughly enjoyed by children and adults alike.

Kailasagiri is also a famous place for paragliding with expert gliding facilities. There are a number of eateries around this park, that serve some great food to go with the view. You could also just grab a cup of coffee and look out over the Bay of Bengal on the eastern edge of the park. The whole of  Visakhapatnam city and forests are easily visible on the other side.
