1984 anti-Sikh riots: Witness identifies Sajjan Kumar

A 1984 anti-Sikh riots witness and victim on Friday identified Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in connection with the alleged killings of the Sikh people during the riots.

New Delhi, (India) Nov 16 (ANI): A 1984 anti-Sikh riots witness and victim on Friday identified Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in connection with the alleged killings of the Sikh people during the riots.

During the hearing of the case in Delhi’s Patiala House court, the witness, Cham Kaur issued a statement identifying Kumar. Earlier, another witness Sheela Kaur identified him.

The case has been listed for hearing on December 20.

Kumar and two other accused are facing trial on the charges of murder and rioting in the case. In March, the Delhi High Court had received a petition containing a CD, which was stated to be Kumar’s confession about accepting his role in the riots. The court issued a notice to the Kumar, asking him to file a reply to the same.

According to official records, about 2,800 Sikhs were killed across India, including 2,100 in Delhi, during the clash that broke out after then prime minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards.(ANI)
