Gaya (Bihar), Feb 27 (PTI) A court here today sentenced eight people to life imprisonment for abduction of a city-based doctor couple three years ago.
Additional District and Sessions judge Sachhidanand Singh awarded life term to the eight people who had been convicted on February 20.
A fine of Rs 50,000 was also slapped on each of them.
Posing as policemen, the eight people kidnapped Dr Pankaj Gupta and his wife Dr Shubhra Gupta from Barachatti here on May 1, 2015, when the couple were returning from Giridih district of Jharkhand.
A special investigating team had rescued the couple from a hideout in Lucknow, a week after the abduction, and had arrested the eight people.
The eight were Ajay Singh, Amit Kumar Singh, Sunil Kumar Singh, Anil Singh, Mrityunjay Singh, Vijay Singh, Rahul Kumar Soni and Shravan Paswan. PTI CORR NAC AR NN NSD NSD
