AIU seizes gold worth Rs. 31 lakhs from Mumbai Airport
The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) has seized 1039 grams of gold with a market value of Rs. 31,52,326 from a woman at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport here.
Mumbai [India], Feb 21 (ANI): The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) has seized 1039 grams of gold with a market value of Rs. 31,52,326 from a woman at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport here.
48-year old Banu Abdul Hai Shaikh, a resident of Wadala area of Mumbai, travelling from Dubai, was intercepted by the AIU officer after she crossed the Green Channel in Arrival Hall.
The team of AIU recovered two pieces of circular white plates made of gold weighing 966 grams concealed in pressure pan of a Pressure Cooker brought by her as part of her checked-in-baggage.
Apart from this, a pair of gold payals weighing 73 grams was also recovered from her possession.
The passenger’s admitted concealment, possession and smuggling of gold and the recovered gold is seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
The AUI also arrested her compliance Faheem M. K., a resident of Kerala, who was supposed to collect the gold from her outside the airport. (ANI)
