According to police, the owner of the shop, located at Kolathur here, went home for lunch after locking it up and returned after about three hours, only to find a hole in the ceiling and gold missing. The culprits are suspected to have entered through the hole, police said, adding, about three kg of gold, some silver items and Rs one lakh in cash were missing from the shop.

Police said a search is on for the burglars.
