Santosh Kumar (45) was fired upon by the three bike-borne assailants while he was on duty last night, leaving him injured, Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Singh said. Also Read - UP: Minor girl raped in Chandrauli

The assailants fled from the spot, leaving their bikes behind, the SP said, adding that the two of them were later caught from a nearby farm with the help of locals. Also Read - IFS probationer manhandled in Rajkot

The injured policeman was referred to the BHU Trauma Centre, where his condition is stated to be stable.

A case was registered against the assailants, Singh added.
