Civilian, injured in J-K's Shopian firing, succumbs to injury

Shopian (Jammu & Kashmir) [India], Jan 31 (ANI): Rayees Ahmad, a civilian of Jammu and Kashmir, who was injured in firing by the army in Shopian on January 27, succumbed to his injuries at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) on Wednesday.

With this, the death toll in the firing has risen to three.

Earlier on January 27, two civilians died and several others were injured in a firing after an army patrol party came under heavy stone pelting from a mob in Shopian’s Ganowpora village.

Following the incident, tension in the Kashmir valley escalated.

The incident came days after two terrorists were killed in an encounter in Dairoo’s Chaigund area in Shopian on January 24. (ANI)
