Mangaluru, Jun 14 (PTI) Prohibitory orders have been clamped in four taluks of Dakshina Kannada district following clashes between people of two communities after a Hindu outfit local leader was stabbed at Kalladka in Bantwal taluk.
The orders would be in force till midnight today except the city police commissionerate limits, police said.
People belonging two communities clashed at Kalladka last evening after the stabbing of Hindu Jagarana Vedike district president Ratnakar Shetty and another in the locality.
The two had been hospitalised.
Following this, people belonging to the two communities indulged in stone throwing at each other. The groups also damaged vehicles and shops were forced to shut down.
Police imposed prohibitory orders in Bantwal, Puttur, Belthangady and Sullia taluks in view of the growing tension.
A strong contingent of police has been deployed in the area to maintain peace.
Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of Police Bhushan G Borase and other police officials reached Kalladka and brought the situation under control, police said.
