Bhubaneswar, Nov 2 (PTI) The Congress today staged a sit-in near Raj Bhavan here, demanding immediate arrest of all accused in the gangrape case of a Dalit girl in Koraput district last month.

The demonstrators also presented a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir, seeking free treatment for the girl in a reputed private hospital in Bhubaneswar, a judicial probe into the incident, release of her medical report and Rs 50 lakh compensation.

The party workers vowed to continue their stir till the 14-year-old survivor gets justice.

The minor girl from Musaguda village of the district was allegedly gangraped by four men on October 10. In her statement to the police, she had claimed that the accused were in combat uniforms.

Addressing the party workers near Raj Bhavan, the ST cell chief of state Congress, Pradeep Majhi, said the BJD regime in Odisha and the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre have joined hands to shield the culprits in the incident.

“The girl, a Class IX student, is under pressure from the police to change her statement. Her relatives are also being harassed by police,” he said.

The former MP said they would hold another protest in Delhi on November 13 to seek justice for her.

“The survivor has clearly said that she can identify the accused, who she claimed were in combat uniforms. No step, however, has been taken by the police to arrange for a Test Identification Parade,” said senior Congress leader and former Union minister Srikant Jena.
