Sitapur (UP), Feb 8 (PTI) A criminal was today killed, while another managed to flee, during a police encounter here, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, Superintendent of Police Anand Kulkarni said that two persons were stopped at Hariharpur turn.
As they were stopped, they started firing on police, he said.
In the retaliatroy firing, the police team fired and one of the criminal, identified as Manoj Singh, was hit by a bullet, while another managed to flee, the SP said.

The injured was taken to a hospital, but was declared brought dead there, he said.
Sub-inspector Anil Tiwari also got injured and is undergoing treatment at a district hospital, Kulkarni said.
The deceased criminal was accused of killing a village head and was wanted by the police, the SP said, adding that a search was on for the other absconding accused and he would be nabbed soon, the SP said.
