Kolkata, May 11 (IANS) The daughter-in-law and grandson of an elderly woman were arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing her with a sharp weapon in West Bengal’s Howrah district, police said.

“An elderly woman named Uma Panja (70) was found dead at her residence in Howrah district’s Uluberia on Wednesday night. There were deep wounds in the deceased’s body,” an officer from Uluberia police station said.

According to police, Panja’s body was found lying in a pool of blood by her other family members who lodged a complaint against her daughter-in-law and grandson for committing the murder.

“The daughter-in-law and the grandson of the deceased were arrested on the basis of the FIR lodged. Both are being interrogated. The motive of the murder is not clear yet,” the officer said.

“We have recovered a bloodstained ‘Da’ (sharp one-edged knife with a haft) from the room which might have been used in the murder,” he added.
