Mumbai, Mar 4 (PTI) After Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today announced that BJP won’t contest the election for Mumbai Mayor’s post, the party’s city unit chief Ashish Shelar said Fadnavis himself would be able to tell if the decision had the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s backing.
“Whether the PM supports the decision is something which the CM can answer,” Shelar said.
“As far as BJP is concerned, we have declared the innings in Mumbai,” Shelar said, adding “however this does not mean that we have thrown the bat away.”
“BJP will be firm on the issue of transparency (in the functioning of the civic body),” Shelar told a Marathi news channel tonight. “We pulled back in order to avoid compromises,” he added.
The party took the decision after accepting the mandate of people of Mumbai, Shelar said.
“We will be the guardians of transparency in Mumbai,” he said.
