Feig regrets 'Ghostbusters' turned into gender equality cause

Los Angeles, Nov 22 (PTI) Director Paul Feig has said he regrets that his “Ghostbusters” film, with an all-female lead cast, performed below the expectations of people.

Feig, 55, said the fact that the movie became a “cause” for gender equality in Hollywood was the reason it did not do well in the theatres.

“I think it kind of hampered us a little bit because the movie became so much of a cause. I think for some of our audience, they were like, ‘What the f**k? We don’t wanna go to a cause. We just wanna watch a f**kin’ movie,” Feig said, according to Vulture.

“It was a great regret in my life that the movie didn’t do better, ’cause I really loved it. It’s not a perfect movie.

None of my movies are perfect. I liked what we were doing with it. It was only supposed to be there to entertain people,” Feig added.

Released in 2016, the rebooted movie had actors Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Leslie Jones play the paranormal fighting gang.
