Bhubaneswar, Apr 22 (PTI) Most parts of Odisha reeled under sweltering heat today with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in at least 13 places in the state.

Balangir and Sonepur were the hottest places in the state, both recording a maximum temperature of 43.2 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological Centre here said.

The mercury touched 43 degrees Celsius in Titlagarh, 42.1 degrees in Hirakud, 42 degrees in Sambalpur, 41.7 degrees in Angul and 41.2 degrees in both Jharsuguda and Bhawanipatna, it said in a bulletin.

The coal town of Talcher recorded a maximum temperature of 40.7 degrees Celsius, while it was 40.6 degrees in Malkangiri, 40.3 degrees in Dhenkanal, 40.2 degrees in Phulbani and 40 degrees Celsius in Sundargarh, it said.

In state capital Bhubaneswar, the mercury rose to 39.4 degrees Celsius from 39.2 degrees recorded yesterday, the Met office said.
