The new panchayats were being formed for the convenience of villagers who hitherto had to travel long distances (to the panchayat offices) for redressal of various issues, he said. Orders had been issued to sanction funds for the new Panchayats on the basis of the population, he said.
The state government would make efforts to conduct elections to the gram panchayats at an early date, he added.
With the addition of the rural local bodies, the number of gram panchayats in Telangana has risen to 12,751.
