Indore, Dec 26 (PTI) Two employees of MP West Area Power Distribution Company were arrested in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh Wednesday for allegedly threatening to implicate a man in a power theft case and taking a bribe.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against assistant engineer Ranjit Kumar Singh and linesman Naresh Kumar Nageshwar, said an official of the Lokayukta Police here.
Singh allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 40,000 at his office in Dhamnod town of Dhar district through Nageshwar.
According to the complainant Ajay Patidar, Singh had taken away the electricity meter at Patidar’s house two weeks ago, saying it had a technical issue. Nageshwar then provided a direct power connection to Patidar’s house.
Singh alleged later that power was being stolen through the illegal direct connection. He allegedly demanded that Patidar pay him Rs 70,000 to avoid a criminal case but eventually agreed to accept Rs 40,000.
On receiving the complaint, Lokayukta Police laid a trap and arrested Singh and Nageshwar.
