Chandigarh, Nov 18 (PTI) The Army’s Corps of Engineers, also called the Sappers, celebrated their 237th Corps Day at the Western Command headquarters, near here, today.

On the occasion, a wreath laying ceremony to pay tribute to martyrs was organised at the ‘Veer Smriti’ at the Chandimandir Cantonment, a defence release said.

Maj. Gen. S Radhakrishnan, Chief Engineer of the Western Command, paid tributes to the those killed in the line of duty.

The Sappers of the Western Command have been on the forefront for development of border areas with better road connectivity and improved infrastructure for the populace, the release said.

Engineers are one of the oldest supporting arms of the Army and consists of four wings Combat Engineers, Military Engineering Services, Border Roads Organisation and Military Survey, the release said.
