Dumka (Jharkhand), Apr 23 (PTI) A 12-year-old tribal girl was allegedly raped at Karaharbil village in Muffasil police station area of Dumka district, a senior police officer said today.

The victim, a student of Class VI, was found lying in the bushes with her hands and legs tied this morning, DIG (Dumka) Akhilesh Kumar Jha said.

She was immediately rushed to Sadar Hospital in Dumka, where the doctors admitted her in the Intensive Care Unit, he said.

The girl, a resident of Amrapara village in adjoining Pakur district, lived with her relatives in Dumka to pursue her studies.

An FIR has been registered in the case and a special investigation team, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Singh, has launched a search operation to apprehend the culprits, Jha said.

“Besides Singh, I will be monitoring the case along with Superintendent of Police Kishore Kaushal,” the DIG added.
