New Delhi: India is set to host a significant Global Intelligence Conference amid the ongoing Russia- Ukraine war and escalated tensions in West Asia. According to the reports, the event will be chaired by India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. Notable attendees will include the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, Canada’s spy chief Daniel Rogers, and the UK’s MI6 chief Richard Moore. It is important to note that the meeting comes at a time when China, Russia, and Iran are conducting joint naval exercises. Meanwhile, in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, insurgents have hijacked a train in the Bolan region.
The meeting is scheduled to take place on March 16,2025 and will be presided over by NSA Ajit Doval. The conference will focus on intelligence-sharing strategies to combat terrorism and various international crimes. Intelligence chiefs from Australia, Germany, New Zealand, and several other allied nations are also expected to participate in the deliberations in New Delhi.
Gabbard is visiting India as part of her multi-nation tour, which includes stops in Japan, Thailand, and France. This will be the first high-level visit to India by a senior official from the Donald Trump administration. In addition to attending the intelligence chiefs’ conference, Gabbard is also expected to address the Raisina Dialogue and hold a bilateral meeting with NSA Doval.
The U.S. Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, will visit India on March 15. Last month, Gabbard met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during her visit to Washington, D.C. The security and intelligence chiefs’ conference is expected to bring together the heads and deputy heads of intelligence and security organizations from around 20 countries.
During their discussions, intelligence chiefs are also expected to focus on various global challenges, including the implications of the Russia- Ukraine war and conflicts in the Middle East. Officials have stated that security and intelligence leaders may also discuss ways to tackle terror financing as well as crimes in the digital space.
Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) chief David Vigneault’s visit to India comes at a time when India and Canada are facing a difficult diplomatic relationship over the Hardeep Singh Nijjar case. This visit follows the departure of Justin Trudeau.
In September 2023, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged the possible involvement of Indian agents in Nijjar’s killing on Canadian soil, leading to serious tensions between India and Canada. New Delhi dismissed Trudeau’s allegations as baseless. Relations further deteriorated in the second half of last year when Ottawa linked High Commissioner Sanjay Verma and several Indian diplomats to Nijjar’s murder.
In October last year, Canada expelled Verma and five other Indian diplomats. In response, New Delhi also expelled Canada’s chargé d’affaires Stewart Wheeler and five other diplomats. It is expected that during Vigneault’s discussions with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, this issue will be a key point of discussion.
