New Delhi, December 01: The election result of Allahabad Nagar Nigam (Municipal Corporation) declared today and Bharatiya Janata Party’s Abhilasha Gupta retained the mayoral seat. She defeated Congress’ candidate Vijay Mishra by a margin of 27542 votes.
The Allahabad Nagar Nigam (Municipal Corporation) went on polls in the second phase of election, which took place on November 26. Around 48.76 per cent voting was recorded in the second phase of the Uttar Pradesh civic polls and Allahabad district had recorded 34.20 percent turnout.

All major parties including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) are in the fray. Notably, the BSP is contesting the local body polls on the party symbol after 17 years.

When Samajwadi Party was in power in Uttar Pradesh in 2012, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had registered massive victory, winning 10 of 12 mayoral posts in municipal corporations, while the Congress faced humiliating defeat as it failed to open its account.
Polling for the first phase was held on November 22, the second phase took place on November 26 and the final phase was conducted on Nov 27. Counting of votes for all the three phases will begin at 8 AM.
