Auto Expo 2018, Maruti Swift 2018 Launch Updates: New Maruti Swift Launched in India at Rs 4.99 Lakhs
New Maruti Swift 2018 will be the third generation model that will take Swift legacy further in the domestic market.

Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading car manufacturer finally will be rolling out the new generation Swift in the country today at the 14th edition of Auto Expo 2018. The third generation Swift 2018 will continue to be seen in both petrol and diesel guises as the outgoing model. The updated avatar of the hatchback will get a new colour option – Prime Lucent Orange shade alongside 5 exciting body colours. Moreover, the latest generation of Swift hatchback is based on Suzuki’s newest Heartect platform which is also used in new age Maruti products like new Dzire, Baleno and the forthcoming Ertiga 2018. The hatchback currently demands a waiting period of approximately 4 to 6 weeks and interested buyers can book the new Swift with token amount of INR 11,000 across all Maruti dealerships in the country. The new Swift 2018 gets aggressive front profile which is highlighted by completely new grille design with company insignia in the centre, all-new edgy bonnet, new sweptback projector headlights fitted with LED DRLs, new bumper and more. The side profile of the hatchback is somewhat similar to the current model, however, the only change on the profile is C-pillar mounted door handle. It also sports body coloured ORVMs with integrated side blinkers and precision cut 15-inch alloy wheels. The rear section of the hatchback is completely fresh as it gets LED tail light, new bumper, rear spoiler mounted stop lamp and much more. In terms of proportion, the new Swift 2018 gets overall length of 3840mm, width of 1735mm and height of 1530mm while the wheelbase stands at 2450mm along with ground clearance of 163 mm. Moving to the interior, the new Swift gets sporty yet spacious cabin featuring driver oriented all-black design combined with urbane satin chrome finish giving a stylish appeal to the interior. It comes loaded with new features such as bolstered front seats, push start-stop button, 3-steering multi-functional steering wheel with mounted controls, automatic climate control, SmartPlay infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Smart key, ABS with EBD, dual airbags, ISOFIX mounts, reverse parking sensors & camera and much more. At the heart, the new Swift 2018 comes equipped with the same engines as seen on the predecessor – 1.2-litre K12B VVT petrol and 1.3-litre DDiS 190 diesel. The petrol unit is capable of making 83 bhp of maximum power @ 6000 rpm with peak torque of 113Nm @ 4200 rpm. The oil burner, on the other hand, can easily churn out 74 bhp @ 4000 rpm and peak torque of 190Nm @ 2000 rpm. Coming to the competition, Maruti Swift will heat up the hatchback segment by competing against the cars like Tata Bolt, Hyundai Grand i10, Honda Brio, Toyota Liva and others. The new Swift is expected to be slightly premium than the current version, which could be priced in the range of INR 4.99 lakh to INR 7 lakh (ex-showroom).

Auto Expo 2018: Interestingly, the Auto gear shift (AGS) comes on both the petrol and diesel variants. The VXi, ZXi, VDi and ZDi variants get the AGS. However, the top end ZXi+ and ZDi+ variants do not come with AGS.

Auto Expo 2018: The new Suzuki Swift boasts of more than 40 percent usage of high tensile steel, thanks in large part to the new HEARTECH platform. Acceleration performance has been increased by up to 10 percent. And the boot has a capacity of 268 litres. That is a 28 percent bump in luggage space.

Auto Expo 2018: There is also around 28 per cent more headroom now in the cabin, and a better seat back angle for enhanced comfort in the rear seat.

Auto Expo 2018: As for the most important question, mileage: the Swift diesel variant now sports even greater mileage than before. Fuel economy has been bumped to 28.4 kmpl, which is around 12 percent more than the outgoing Swift. The petrol model is around 7.8 percent more efficient now, returning 22 kmpl.

Auto Expo 2018: A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on both the engines across the trim levels, while the company is offering a 5-speed AGS (Auto Gear Shift) AMT gearbox on the V and Z trim levels as an option.

Auto Expo 2018: The other engine is a 1.3-litre DDiS 190 diesel engine that delivers 55.2 kW of power and 190 Nm of torque. The Swift comes with all the customization options of the iCreate program. Options like dual tone roofs, decals and designs are going to be available.

Auto Expo 2018: There is a new single-aperture front grille complemented with an all around seamless flow and sculpted body with strong shoulders. The car gets two engine options. One is a 1.2-litre VVT petrol engine that delivers 61 kW of power and 113 Nm of torque.

Auto Expo 2018: The HEARTECT platform has made the new Swift a lot safer and the car is now compliant with the upcoming safety norms. Some of the safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard across the range. Other safety features include parking sensors and reverse parking camera and the likes.
