“Ghulami ki nishaniyon ko mita dena chahiye tha jisme se kal ke shasakon ki boo aati ho. Maine to pehle hi kaha tha, Parliament kyu nahi, Qutab Minar kyu nahi, Rashtrapati Bhavan kyu nahi, Lal Quila kyu nahi, Agra ka Taj Mahal kyu nahi (I said earlier too…all such signs of slavery should be demolished…whether it Parliament, Rashtrapati Bhavan or Taj Mahal),” the controversial Samajwadi Party leader said. BJP MLA from Sardhana Sangeet Som questioned Taj Mahal’s place in history, distorting historical facts to say that it was built by an emperor who had imprisoned his father and targeted Hindus. During a visit to Meerut on Sunday, the legislator termed Mughal emperors Babur, Akbar and Aurangzeb “traitors” and said their names would be removed from the pages of history.
“Many people were pained to see that the Taj Mahal was removed from the list of places (tourist destinations). What type of history? Is this history that the person who built the Taj Mahal imprisoned his father? Do you call it history when the one who built the Taj targeted many Hindus in Uttar Pradesh and Hindustan?” Som said.
Som’s contentious remark came days after the Yogi Adityanath government left out the Taj Mahal from an official tourism booklet.
Asaduddin Owaisi Slams Sangeet Som
Responding to Sardhana MLA Sangeet Som’s remark that Taj Mahal was a ‘blot’ on Indian history and culture as it was constructed by Mughals who plundered the country, Owaisi asked will PM Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath would ban tourists from visiting Taj Mahal.
“If what he (Sangeet Som) says is true that Taj Mahal is symbol of traitors, built by traitors then why is Mr. Modi goes to Red Fort and hoists national flag on a place which built by traitors? Owaisi asked.
“Will Mr. Modi stop hoisting national flag from Red Fort. Will Mr. Modi stop hosting foreign dignitaries in Hyderabad House which was also built by traitors,” the Hyderabad MP added.
