Bank Holidays: The Indian banks, including public and private sector banks, will remain closed for several days between October 13 and 19. The reason is the upcoming festivals across India. Several major festivals are falling in October, such as Navratri, Durga Puja, Karva Chauth, and Diwali. Additionally, certain regional holidays will result in bank closures on specific days in various states.
Major banks like State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank, remain closed on RBI mandated bank holidays.
As per RBI, public and private sector banks will be closed for up to 21 days in October because of major festivals such as – Diwali, Maha Ashtami, Dussehra, Durga Puja and Chhat Puja.
It is to be noted that apart from these holidays, banks will be closed on weekends – Saturday and Sunday.
In addition to regional and national holidays, the Reserve Bank of India directed banks to observe holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, as well as on all Sundays.
October 18 (Saturday) — Banks will be closed in Guwahati because of Kati Bihu festival.
October 19 (Sunday) — Banks will be closed across India due to the Sunday weekly off.
Please Note: Banks will provide services on Dhanteras and there is no bank holiday on October 18.
It is worth mentioning that Bank holidays vary from region to region or remain shut across the country depending on the nature. People should avoid these days as work like depositing a cheque or any other documentation work will not be possible on bank holidays.
However, Online and mobile banking services, including IMPS, NEFT, RTGS, will remain operational 24*7. Additionally, UPI services will remain available 24*7 during bank holidays.
If a person needs to withdraw cash on a bank holiday, he can visit the nearest ATM.
